BAMS stands for Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery. It is an UG (Under Graduate) degree programme specifically designed to unfold the concepts of Ayurveda at its core and methodology to treat the patients. BAMS is a combination of Ayurveda and modern medical science. Ayurveda is considered to be one of the ancient systems of medicine which can be traced from the period of Vedic times. The concepts of Ayurveda are based on a blend of herbs, being sourced directly from the nature.
Advancements in the Medical Science are based on experimentation, meanwhile medicine systems of Ayurveda are well-rooted to be considered as an alternative method of treatment. Ayurvedic medicine works beyond the cure as it takes complete advantage of anti-bodies present in an individual.
As an approved Indian methodology for learning medical science, BAMS has its recognition around the globe. It can be well explained by the fact that even WHO (World Health Organisation) has acknowledged the medicine systems of Ayurveda and actively promotes this traditional system globally. For its acceptance around the world, BAMS as a medical science course, is highly sought after because of global opportunities and opening of promising careers altogether.
For aspirants of BAMS, it is important to note that BAMS is a 5½-year bachelor degree programme and can only be pursued post clearing senior school level in science stream, having PCB (Physics, Chemistry and Biology) subjects mandatorily. Other eligibility criteria differ from college to college or it works as per university rules & regulations.
